History of the School

CPMA opened in the 2002–2003 school year with 216 grade 6 students who were served at the former Fremont Elementary School site in San Diego’s Old Town area. In the following year the school moved its operation to the former MacDowell Elementary School site in northeastern Clairemont. As grades 7 and 8 were added in 2003–2004 and 2004–2005, enrollment increased accordingly. From 2004–2005 to 2007–2008 enrollment remained steady, ranging between 596 and 605 students. Following CPMA’s move to a larger facility, the former Kroc Middle School site, for the 2008–2009 school year, CPMA was able to enroll more students from its waiting list and enrollment increased by 57 percent compared with the previous year’s enrollment. CPMA staff anticipate an enrollment of 1,100 in 2009–2010.
